Enable passkey

Passkeys are a modern, phishing-resistant alternative to passwords. Instead of typing a password, you authenticate using your device's built-in security, such as a fingerprint sensor, facial recognition, or a device PIN. Passkeys are built on the FIDO2/WebAuthn standard and are supported by all major browsers and operating systems.

With passkeys enabled on your Simbase account, you can sign in faster and more securely, without relying on a password that could be guessed, leaked, or phished.

How Passkeys Work

When you set up a passkey, your device creates a unique cryptographic key pair. The private key stays securely on your device (or in your password manager), while the public key is stored on Simbase's servers. At sign-in, your device proves it holds the private key without ever transmitting it, making passkeys fundamentally more secure than traditional passwords.

Passkeys can be stored on your computer, phone, tablet, or in a compatible password manager such as iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or 1Password.

Setting Up a Passkey

To add a passkey to your Simbase account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account at dashboard.simbase.comarrow-up-right and navigate to the Settings page.

  2. Under Security, you see the Passkeys section, click Add passkey.

  3. Your browser will prompt you to create a passkey. Depending on your device, you may be asked to use a fingerprint, facial recognition, device PIN, or security key.

  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the setup.

  5. Once created, the passkey will appear in your passkey list with the device name and creation date.

Signing In with a Passkey

Once a passkey is registered, you can use it to sign in:

  1. Go to dashboard.simbase.comarrow-up-right and enter your email address.

  2. When prompted, choose to sign in with a passkey.

  3. Your browser will ask you to verify your identity using the same method you used during setup (fingerprint, face, PIN, or security key).

  4. After successful verification, you are signed in — no password required.

If you have both MFA and a passkey configured, signing in with a passkey satisfies both factors. You will not be asked for a separate MFA code.

Removing a Passkey

If you no longer want to use a specific passkey, for example, if you have replaced a device or no longer have access to it, you can remove it:

  1. Log in to your account and navigate to the Settings page.

  2. In the Passkeys section, find the passkey you want to remove.

  3. Click the Remove icon next to the passkey.

Make sure you have at least one other sign-in method available (password, another passkey, or MFA) before removing a passkey. Removing your only passkey without an alternative could affect your ability to sign in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use passkeys alongside MFA?

Yes. Passkeys and MFA can coexist on the same account. Signing in with a passkey is considered multi-factor by itself (possession of your device plus biometric or PIN verification), so you won't be prompted for a separate MFA code when using one.

What happens if I lose the device my passkey is stored on?

If your passkey is synced through a password manager (such as iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager), it will be available on your other devices automatically. If the passkey was device-bound and you no longer have access, you can still sign in with your password and MFA, then remove the old passkey from your profile.

Which browsers support passkeys?

Passkeys are supported in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox on all major platforms (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux).

Do passkeys work on mobile?

Yes. You can set up and use passkeys on both the mobile browser and desktop browser versions of the Simbase dashboard.
